6 Dental Tips To Survive The Health Crisis

First of all, we thank you for not showing up at our offices without first contacting us. Our dentists are on call and only travel for emergency appointments given by phone. We want to minimize travel as recommended by the government.

Without further ado, here are the tips of the Dentistes REMA team to remedy the most common dental problems.

1. What to do in the event of a dental emergency?

If you have a broken tooth that hurts, a pain that wakes you up at night or a pain that is not relieved by taking medication, contact us. One of our secretaries will take your call and ask you specific questions in order to properly assess your pain and evaluate your risk of Covid-19 contamination.

2. How do I respond to coldpain?

Do you have coldpain? We suggest limiting acidic foods, such as citrus fruits and dressings. We also recommend using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth, such as Sensodyne Rapid Relief or Colgate Pro-relief, which you can apply and massage on the root of the teeth or at the place of sensitivity (if you currently use Sensodyne Repair and Protect, you can continue the treatment with this product). This treatment must be performed for at least a month, every morning and evening. Don't rinse your mouth after spitting and avoid eating or drinking for at least 30 minutes after brushing.

3. How do I get rid of diffuse pain?

Do you suffer from diffuse pain that doesn't wake you up at night? Take 500 mg of acetaminophen (Tylenol). Avoid taking ibuprofen (Advil) if possible.

4. What should I do with a broken tooth?

Your tooth is broken and irritates your tongue and/or cheek? Use a clean nail file, previously cleaned with rubbing alcohol, to file the chipped portion of the tooth. You can also cover the broken part of the tooth with orthodontic wax, available over the counter, or sugar-free chewing gum. If you can't reduce the irritation, contact us.

5. What about a fallen filling?

Did your filling fall off? Use orthodontic wax, available over the counter, to plug the hole left by the filling or insert a sugar-free gum in the cavity.

6. What if your crown decimated itself?

Try to put the crown back in place with Fixodent, available in drugstores, or with toothpaste. However, we suggest that you remove the crown before bedtime and put it in a closed container.
